The India Prism?

Reuters has published an analysis by Golnar Motevalli that suggests that U.S. strategy in Afghanistan (and vis-a-vis Pakistan) is increasingly centering around an India focus. Motevalli quotes an unnamed diplomat as saying, "Obama has also been clear that he sees the Pakistan situation very much through the prism of India" which is an interesting comment (and somewhat of a departure from past policy which put the emphasis on Pakistan).

If in the past the U.S. had a tilt toward Pakistan, is the opposite now occurring--and will it accelerate under the new administration?

Comments:
As I read it, the article says only that we will include India in our field of vision. But it goes on to argue that U.S. policy will be to keep India and Pakistan from going to war, which I thought was the current policy. I do agree that a tilt to India would be a change. Is there other evidence that the incoming administration plans such a shift?

I agree with David. I think this might have been an attempt to float a trial balloon, judge reactions, and so on. Helpful that the diplomat stays unnamed.

What does a "tilt" mean exactly?

US has been in a permanent state of "tilt" with respect to Israel; has that helped her achieve anything but phyrric victories?

Ditto for the "tilt" towards Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War.

Really, you guys have to be more articulate and more careful as to what you mean by "tilt".

I hope this is not an indication of another fantasy project coming out of DC, by the 60s generation.

Where are the adults in US; do you not produce people like Kenan, Marshall, Nixon, Odom, Baker any longer?
