Russia, Human Rights and U.S. Policy

For those interested, here is a transcript of the roundtable hearing sponsored by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom on the human rights situation in Russia and the U.S. response.

Comments:
The fact that, from 1998 - August 1999, Human Rights Watch wrote exactly 0 reports on the human rights situation in Chechnya indicates the actual level of interest in the human rights situation in Chechnya. Apparently, floggings, stonings, executions, and kidnappers cutting off fingers on videotape to encourage the payment of ransoms wasn't something HRW was concerned with.
